Local History & Steaming Day

Crossness Engines Trust is teaming up with the Bexley Civic Society for a series of local history events in 2014. This will be the first open day in a limited number of five open days this year.

The Crossness Engines Trust, as one of the only two Grade I listed industrial buildings in London, will open its doors for the local history steaming day taking place on Sunday 6th April 2014.

Bexley is well known for its rich history and numerous heritage sites. This will be a fantastic opportunity to learn about all the interesting history surrounding Bexley and the area in general. There will be exhibits from the Red House Trust, which will allow budding art historians to get to know better the life and art of William Morris. Alongside these history exhibits visitors will be able to take a look around the Crossness pumping station. There will multiple chances to see the world’s largest working rotative beam engine, “Prince Consort”, which will be steaming throughout the day. This Crossness event will appeal to anyone who is interested in local and industrial history and indeed anyone who has a sense of wonder.

Free and easy parking is readily available.

Refreshments are available at the café and museum shop on site. The Crossness Pumping Station is located approximately 6 miles from Junction 1 of the M25.
