Curious Duke Gallery are proud to present Roy's People: Street Life, his first UK solo show. Showcasing his surrealist figures with a humorous edge, Roy's People presents an alternative and light hearted approach to art. With hand painted people installed in eccentric situations, such as a family walking a beetle at the seaside and taxidermied butterflies flown as kites; Roy's People creates a miniature world for us to dive into.
Roy's People's Little People project began two years ago, with a meteoric rise from exhibiting in the last year as one to watch. Roy's People, an Essex based self taught artist decided to launch his little people into the world after becoming inspired from a photography project based on the small world of people on a miniature train set. From here Roy's People took inspiration to imagine lives and sub-worlds for Little People to exist in. From here he imagined how news articles, social networking and world events could affect the life of one of his people; what situation they'd find themselves, how'd they would be positioned and what their life and personality would be.
And of course, Roy's People signature Life series. Known for his taxidermied butterflies flown in a park, each scene presents us with a tender yet fun moment. Sitting on a bench, standing under a tree or balancing against the wind, the Little People precariously battle with their larger than life kite. And for those who would like to add romance to their park life, Roy's latest series sees a hand cast heart take to the sky.
