Humanitarian Art Exhibition ‘ Syria Art: of Today’

Attention art enthusiasts, culture lovers, contemporary art collectors and humanitarians: this coming April, VC ART is delighted to present ‘Syrian Art: Of Today’ - a group art show for young Syrian artists in aid of Oxfam to support Syrian refugees in Lebanon at a pop-up gallery in Mayfair. 

Due to the ongoing civil war in Syria since March 2011, over two million refugees have fled their country, half of which are children.  According to the UN, this is the worst refugee crisis since the 1994 Rwandan genocide.

VC ART is proud to be collaborating with Oxfam as they are an NGO with no political affiliation that have already organized an impressive response to the Syrian crisis having helped over 220,000 people with the aim to reach up to 650,000 before the end of this year. A portion of the proceeds raised will go to Oxfam’s work with the Syrian refugees in Lebanon primarily their program ‘Informal Tented Settlements’ dispersed around the country.

‘Syrian Art: Of Today’ is both an art show and a humanitarian project aiming at supporting talent from Syria at a time of crisis and civil unrest. VC ART has chosen five gifted Syrian artists, between the ages of 21 and 42, who have proven individual artistic talents (Fadi Al Hamwi, Tarek Butayhi, Mohamad Khayata, Thaer Maarouf and Ashraf Raheb). The exhibition will give them the opportunity to be discovered by the art community in London while also giving the local community the opportunity to help support talent from the war torn region. 

The exhibition will showcase approximately 60 pieces with affordable prices ranging from £300 -  £5000 including paintings on canvas, paper and photography portraying the artists’ individual experiences. 

We are also very lucky to present the talented violinist Jenny Bae who has donated her time to perform at the exhibition. Jenny studied at the prestigious Juilliard School, where she was taught by the late Dorothy Delay and Mr Hyo Kang. In her hometown Seoul, South Korea she performed at the Peace concert with Luciano Pavarotti. She has also guest-performed for world-renowned musicians such as Eric Clapton, Lionel Richie and Andrea Boccelli. As a Red Cross Ambassador, Jenny was asked to make a speech at The United Nations to welcome fellow South Korean Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon.
