ALYSON CAWLEY is a wonderfully talented tenor saxophone player who we are very pleased to welcome back to the Club after a lengthy absence due to the demands of motherhood. Originally from the West Midlands Alyson studied at Leeds College of Music before gaining a post-graduate diploma from the Guildhall College of Music and Drama. Her performance history is highly impressive, playing lead tenor saxophone with NYJO in the late 1990’s, touring Europe with acid-jazz outfit the Herbaliser and also appearing on TV with high profile artists including Incognito and the James Taylor Quartet. The band tonight is comprised of a fantastic collection of musicians including fellow saxophonist Allison Neale (BBC Big Band) on alto sax/flute. The evening will feature time-honoured material including compositions from jazz greats Art Pepper, Tubby Hayes and Lennie Tristano and promises to combine superb technical ability with melodic and harmonic brilliance.
“The most exciting thing about this quintet was their ability to roam confidently around the jazz canon, while extending our perception of their technical abilities.” The Guardian
