Tonight will be the second in a regular series of gigs featuring artists from the world of singer/songwriters, hosted by one of the UK’s finest singer/songwriters, Sarah Gillespie. The structure of the evening will be based on a format that has been popular in New York for a little while, but untried in the UK…up until now! Each of the three guest singers perform two numbers at the beginning of the evening and then for the second half of the set all four singers will take turns to perform. The second half will be the same format but will feature an opening set from Sarah. Joining Sarah tonight will be:

John Fairhurst. A Wigan native, John has been honing his craft on the road combining his passions for people and music for years. The result is an awe-inspiring wall of sound rooted in his northern blues background, with a gritty mournful deep-south attitude and a voice to carry it home. With a bottle-neck blues style referencing the likes of Son House, comparisons to the finger-picking of John Fahey, a leaning towards the psychedelic 60’s rock of Hendrix and Led Zeppelin and the ever present influence of Indian raga, John’s music is a real melting-pot of diverse musical traditions. His eclectic mix of influences wrapped up in a powerful blues style has been heard around the world, including SXSW, Glastonbury, Green Man, Tarragona and Edinburgh Festivals. He has three CD’s currently on release, all of which have been received with critical acclaim, the Guardian describing the “Joys of Spring” as “truly exquisite”. With residencies on the Harley Davidson European Festival and a tour with Johnny Winter already under his belt John is also about to release a new album of what has been described as a “full on electric blues experience with John’s unique voice and guitar playing refraining to no boundaries”. John epitomises the sound of modern British blues. Annique. After graduating from the Academy of Contemporary Music, Annique began gigging across a plethora of genres, from singing backing vocals on the Gorillaz “Plastic Beach” to performances with Mike Skinner & the Streets on Jools Holland and the Electric Proms. This open-minded approach characterises her own songwriting, which embraces myriad influences, among them soul, folk and pop. At times wistfully innocent, even delicate, she can also call upon impressive power and range on the top end when she wants to, adding further to her versatility. Annique is currently working on her first album with producer/multi-instrumentalist Koby Israelite. Cate Ferris. Brighton-based singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Cate Ferris describes her sound as “folk and dark soul”, while BBC 6 Music simply says “what a beautiful thing”. Her songs are enigmatic and haunting, wafting and weaving indelibly through the psyche complemented by the dynamics of her delivery and her clear, winsome tone. She plays several instruments including guitar, keyboards and drums, and has been making a name for herself in Brighton and London, receiving raves from critics and audiences wherever she performs. “…you might just fall hopelessly in love with her stunning voice and warm, generous stage craft” Playgroup Festival

This is an exciting new addition to the 606 Club gig roster and promises to be a unique and exhilarating experience for both performers and audience. It is with great pleasure that we welcome all four of these terrific singer/songwriters to the Club this evening.

“Sarah Gillespie..…an incandescent presence who matches her imposing delivery with superior lyrics” Guardian
