The Investigation Series is proud to present One to One: Charting the Personal Terrain, a contemporary art exhibition showcasing the work of 11 emerging artists who investigate personal geographies and the narrative form in art. Apart from a permanent collection, a curated set-list of events over the weekend creates a “live” space within the exhibition.

One to One takes for its name a short story, On Exactitude in Science, by Jorge Luis Borges, about cartography and representation of a terrain. In the story Borges imagines a country where the science of cartography has become so exact that a map was made at a 1:1 scale, later falling into disuse. One to One refers not only to the scale of such a map and its impossibility, but also to personal encounters, meeting “one-to-one”.

The artists draw on music, dance, psychology, film and story-telling to create work that is transcendental and intimate. The multiple narratives paint a landscape from which anyone could find a story of their own. An entire weekend packed full with events that are fascinating, enjoyable and accessible promises an extra dimension to the work in the show.

Set at East London art gallery The Rag Factory, the exhibition is accessible easily via public transport and situates itself in an area well known for pushing the boundaries and challenging existing notions in contemporary art.

Sponsored by the University of the Arts Student Union and Red Bull Energy Drinks.

The Investigation Series is a curatorial platform based in London that aims to showcase the work of young emerging artists in an engaged and collaborative manner. The collective sets out to unpack the values of site-specificity in contemporary art in a world where locations switch quickly between places and spaces. Their projects are focused on the artists, supporting the visualisation of ideas, realisation of work and promotion of their objectives. Working with many different artists enables the growth of the collective as a whole; “Investigation” is the primary goal, to discover through the act of doing, failing, repeating and succeeding.
