Mike Rendell discusses the 18th-century entrepreneur Philip Astley, called the founder of the modern circus. A brilliant equestrian, he started by giving riding lessons in the morning and putting on "a bit of a show" in the afternoon. It grew into a circus extravaganza which swept the globe.
Includes a wine reception.
