On Sunday 4th May rave legends Fabio and Grooverider play a special ‘Rage Set at the Memory Box Social Bank Holiday special at Horse and Groom. Capturing and celebrating defining moments in the last few decades of electronic music, Memory Box delves deep into its rich history, trawling the archives to produce a broad selection of sonic memoirs to enlighten, inspire and educate a new generation.
Rage was the iconic weekly London club night of the early 90’s and Fabio and Grooverider were the masters at the helm. Thursday nights at Heaven in Charing Cross were a magical time for many UK clubbers. Up to 2000 ravers would turn out weekly to hear Fabio and Grooverider experiment with their new rave sound. Running from 1990 to 1994 its legend surpasses its years. This was a new phase. The move from acid house to a darker London sound called Jungle. This was the birth of London bass sound!
It started in Heaven’s upstairs Star Bar, where Fabio and Groove would play tough dark sped up breakbeats from the likes of Frankie Bones and Lenny Dee alongside Strictly Rhythm house tracks, European techno from labels like RandS, warehouse bass tracks like LFO, and Detroit classics. This clubbing institution inspired a generation of artists including Goldie, Storm and Kemistry, who used the club as a prototype for their Metalheadz night.
For this special Bank Holiday party, Memory Box joins forces with DNB But DFRNT, the Horse and Groom’s Sunday drum n bass residency who will take over the 2nd room upstairs with an almighty line-up of Original Sin, Brian G and Ruffstuff.
