‘Multi – story’ forms parts of an ambitious new moving image project and installation by artist Amanda Loomes, revealing the dramatic story of 80 Bishopsgate, a building destroyed by an IRA bomb in 1993, rebuilt, and subsequently demolished in 2011.

Woven throughout the film are sounds and images from archive films ‘Barbican Regained’ (1963) and ‘Living City’ (1970), referencing the continuing cycle of destruction and construction. ‘Multi-story’ uses the archive films to challenge the confidence and certainty of the past, acting as akind of memento mori for the city.

‘Multi-story’ will be screened alongside archive films from the London Screen Study Collection, Birkbeck College, University of London. This collection is an integral part of a series of initiatives that seek to make accessible London’s rich screen heritage.

The installation Spoil and Fill can currently be seen at Studio 1.1 57a Redchurch Street, Shoreditch, London, E2 7DJ until April 27th.

Spoil and Fill is supported using public funding by Arts Council England.
