It is Spredluv & CKC Corporation’s great pleasure to present the 6th Annual Bermuda Day in London Celebrations!

On Sunday, May 4th 2014 (Bank Holiday Weekend), Bermudian culture and heritage will once again take centre stage in the heart of Camden Market in London, allowing us the chance to indulge in music, dancing, games and of course, fantastic food.

Bermuda Day in London has grown considerably since its humble beginnings back in 2009. We’ll be celebrating our 6th anniversary in true island-style with live performances, Bermudian DJs, ‘Kids and Family’ Zone, Games, Books, Limbo competition and Films plus authentic Bermudian Cuisine and Bermudians’ favourite cocktails, Rum Swizzle and Dark & Stormy, available at The Lockside Lounge Rum Shack throughout the day, then party all night long inside Lockside Lounge!

Each year we look to add new elements from Bermuda’s creative talent, so it gives us great pleasure that this year we can present a Bermuda Film and Book night.

On Thursday May 1st we will celebrate some of Bermuda’s many valued treasures, from books and short films by Bermudians authors and producers to live music.

This night will truly be the highlight of Bermuda Day in London 2014 with the introduction of books written and published by Bermudian David Chapman and other Bermudian writers through CKC BOOKS, a subsidiary of partner organization, CKC Corporation.

Books such as David Chapman’s Daddy and I explore series, "A Bird’s Eye View (Black Males and Bermuda’s Education System)" by Dr. Vincent Williams, "Memoirs of my Scars" by DeJon Simmons and "Cell 6.3.7." by Kellan Lewis, currently incarcerated at Westgate Correctional Facility in Bermuda and other extraordinary titles by Bermudian authors will be available to purchase on the night.

“This is an awesome opportunity for talented Bermudian writers. For the first time, Bermuda’s books will be promoted and available for purchase at Camden Market in London which means that people from all over the world will have access to the island’s talented artists.” CEO of CKC BOOKS, Bermudian Cha’Von K. Clarke. CKC BOOKS will release projects on Education in Bermuda, exotic poetry and short stories and social challenges in Bermuda, many to be featured as a special edition at the Bermuda Day in London event. The books are also available in the CKC Books store at www.ckcbooks.com or www.ckccorporation.org.

David Chapman is an Environmental Scientist, Consultant and Author.

Short films by Bermudian film producers will also feature for the first time at Bermuda Day in London.

These include work by Award winning Producer, Director, and Writer Lucinda Spurling

“Poverty in Paradise: The Price We Pay.” By: Lucinda Spurling and Andrew Kirkpatrick’s, which explores the causes and consequences of the widening wealth gap in Bermuda; the struggles families face in providing for themselves and their children and the consequential spiral in crime plaguing the community will make an appearance,

LIFE ANONYMOUS by Award winning Screenwriter, Filmmaker and Creative Kara Smith and Karli Powell, which was selected for screening at Cannes International Film Festival, Short Film Corner is a short film created on and shoestring budget of £30 in just 3 short weeks. The story follows a day in the life of Arthur O'Neal, a newly homeless war vet with an epic drug habit.

An excerpt from the film FABRIC - History of the Portuguese in Bermuda by Milton Raposo will be shown. FABRIC will document the story of the Portuguese in Bermuda. The excerpt to be featured shows the annual Senor Santo Cristo dos Milagres Festival which is held five weeks after Easter Sunday. The annual Senhor Santo Cristo dos Milagres Festival is the highlight of the Portuguese Catholic calendar with hundreds packing into St. Theresa’s Cathedral in Bermuda. This festival is modelled after the one that is also held each year in Ponta Delgada.
Just like it is done in San Miguel, the statue of Jesus, known as The Image, is carried around the streets then carried back to the Cathedral.

Although very little is known about Bermuda apart from its picturesque beaches, stunning sunsets and the legendary “Bermuda Triangle”. Bermuda Day in London, a free family-friendly event, aims to celebrate and promote Bermudian culture, heritage and history through music, cuisine, and more. The event is a beautiful advert for Bermuda and her talents and continues to be a great outing for many Londoners and Bermudians living in the UK.

"Our 2014 event is sure to be another great day for all to come together to party and enjoy island flavours as we send Bermudian vibes across the Camden Lock so the world can sample a taste of Bermuda," shared founder and organiser, Beatnik Rubaine.

Cha'Von Clarke chimed in, "We expect to see people from all over the UK, US and Europe, including Bermudians who have relocated around the world and those visiting London from the island. All are welcomed to celebrate with us!"

And, on the music, "We wont disappoint! The music is always nice and the talent is varied and plentiful," replied Jeremy Blades, the third member of the production team.

The vibes will begin on 1 May with the books and film night and then continue to build on the terrace of Lockside lounge on 6 May from 12pm, and continue inside until 2am.
