Antimicrobial resistance is perceived as an increasing threat to health and well-being globally. This is not a new message – it is one that has been repeated many times over the past three decades. What is new today and is the problem reaching a level where front line treatment is regularly failing to control bacterial infections in patients. Currently there is limited research by the major pharmaceutical companies on new drug targets and concomitantly, few new anti-microbial agents under clinical trials.

Smi's masterclass hosted by University College London Hospitals will examine the rising threat of antimicrobial resistance particularly among Gram negative bacteria, antibiotic stewardship as well as reduction in the overall value use of antibiotics has to be improved.

Why you should attend:
To understand the current thinking in antimicrobial chemotherapy and how this is being affected by global changes in resistance and Uk government.

Speakers: Professor Peter Wilson, Consultant Micobiologist, University College London Hospitals Preet Panesar, Lead Pharmacist, University College London Hospitals
