Following their sell-out show in 2013, Fugata Quintet return to the Royal Albert Hall’s Elgar Room.
Bringing passion, dazzling technique and a distinguished sound, the Fugata Quintet push the boundaries of chamber music. With an unconventional instrumentation inspired by Astor Piazzolla’s original compositions, their concerts offer classical arrangements and new works specially commissioned for the ensemble.
The Fugata Quintet was formed in 2007 by graduates of the Royal Academy of Music in London. All outstanding musicians in their own right, Zivorad Nikolic (accordion), Anastasios Mavroudis (violin), Antonis Hatzinikolaou (guitar), Anahit Chaushyan (piano) and James Opstad (double bass) combine their musical personalities to create an enormous range of possibilities for expression.
The Quintet has performed music from Bach to Tchaikovsky; Piazzolla to modern commissions. In the first half of 2013 they premiered Michael Csanyi-Wills’s L’Annunziata suite live on BBC Radio 3, followed by James Opstad’s Semblance later that year. 2014 sees the world premiere of their latest commission, Vache Sharafyan’s Inner Dance.
