Taxidermy has gained a rise in popularity over the past two years, with notable artists such as Damien Hirst and Polly morgan reinventing the Victorian craft of the preserved animal to high art object. After it's feature in recent years in fashion (for example, in the collections of Alexander McQueen) and with celebrities such as Kate Moss and Russell Brand confessing to have their own collections at home, taxidermy has been resurrected as a stunning art form in it's own right. Thanks to several articles in national newspapers and features on television, more and more people are wanting to discover more about the process and learn for themselves. This course will show you how!

The class teaches you all the basic steps of taxidermy so whether you want to create your own masterpiece or just learn a little more about the process, this class is the perfect introduction. Each four hour class is instructed by fine art taxidermist Mabel Edwards, who will guide you step by step in a comprehensive and easy to understand manner.

The class is structured to help you create a life-like mount of a mouse but students are free to bring any miniature props with them if they prefer the Walter Potter tradition of anthropomorphic taxidermy! A small selection of props will also be provided.

Mabel Edwards is a fine art taxidermist based in West London, and incorporates modern dynamics to this antiquated craft. She creates playful works of art featuring unique, contemporary bejewelled taxidermy.

No former experience is necessary. Please note that we use no harsh or dangerous chemicals during this class and all students are provided with gloves. All animals are disease free and no animals were killed for this class. All mice are feeder animals for snakes and lizards. Although there will not be a lot of blood and gore, taxidermy is not for everyone and students are asked to consider this before booking their place.
