The Pretty Things were always a risqué name to conjure with. Ever since their tumultuous launch on an unsuspecting British public half a century ago, they’ve been neither quiet, pretty nor comfortable.
The Pretty Things were a band that rocked. They still are. They made headlines. They drew questions in the House of Commons. They pretty much invented Swinging London. They remain the only band ever to be name-checked by Dylan in a song.
They were the first British band with truly long hair (the cause of many a fight) and they were the only obvious threat to the Rolling Stones (of which guitarist Dick Taylor was a member before leaving to join the PTs).
While their initial career was comparatively short-lived in chart success terms, they have been around, one way or another, for 50 years and are established worldwide as a serious act (not a graveyard jukebox).
Recent years have seen a huge renaissance in their popularity. They received a Mojo Magazine Hero Award. They have been recognised as the originators of the first Rock Opera (S. F. Sorrow) and they continue to tour with the likes of The White Stripes, Kasabian, Iggy & Springsteen.
Their first album was a cracker and so, as a fitting tribute to their notorious 50 years of general bad boy behaviour, a limited edition vinyl version of the very same is about to hit the streets.
Recorded entirely in analogue on the famous Ronnie Lane Mobile Studio (The Stones/The Who/Clapton/Zeppelin/etc.), the LP comprises 12 tracks in all and is released on April 25th.
“The Pretty Things: Live At The 100 Club” is a live Limited Edition vinyl of the band’s first album marking 50 years since its first release and July 4th will mark the official launch of the LP.
