In Homage is an exhibition of seminal artworks by modern and contemporary masters, including Francis Bacon, George Condo, Martin Kippenberger, Richard Prince, Sigmar Polke and Andy Warhol amongst others. Responding to masterpieces by Velázquez, Picasso, Baselitz, Goya and de Kooning each work will show how artists have been inspired by their illustrious predecessors. On display will be Francis Bacon’s Study for a Pope III, 1961; last exhibited in the U.K. at The Tate Gallery in 1962, as part of the artist’s first retrospective. This work will be shown in London for the first time in 52 years. In Homage emphasises how artists have responded to a past master, not only through visually referencing a work, but also by incorporating a process, philosophy or intent of that artist. A visually striking assembly of works, the exhibition will shed light on the artists’ practices.
