Against the backdrop of perhaps the most politicised World Cup in history, we are providing a platform for alternative voices in football.

Through films, director Q&As and panel discussions we will show the many ways communities and social movements view, play and use the beautiful game.

On Thursday 10th we will be looking at the challenges faced by footballers in countries afflicted by occupation and civil war, and the way that football can unite a population against oppression.

On Friday 11th we will be exploring the obstacles faced by women all over the world as they fight for representation in football and society.

On Saturday 12th we will be looking at football and resistance, and how organized supporters' groups have moved from the terraces to the streets in helping to determine their countries’ political destinies.

One of the highlights of the festival will be the UK premiere of Istanbul United, a documentary about how Istanbul's rival fan groups set aside their differences to protest against the Turkish government during last year's occupation of Taksim Square.
