CHILDREN IN THE WIND (Hiroshi Shimizu I Japan 1937 I 88 mins)

Mischievous Sampei is chief of his gang until his father is imprisoned for a crime he didn't commit. Little Sampei is sent off to live with his uncle, away from home and everything he knows, Sampei runs amok. Vanishing into the wild and then to the circus, all the time wishing he could get home and wondering whether his father will ever come back. 80 years on, Hiroshi Shimizu's masterpiece is as captivating as ever.
