Adults who fancy something a bit different on a Saturday night can discover the remains of medieval and Tudor palaces during an archaeology walk along the Thames foreshore at Greenwich.

The walk is organised by volunteers from the Greenwich Foreshore and Observation Group (FROG), who will explain the archaeology that they are investigating, as well as their research into the area's long tradition of riverside industry.

"The palaces at Greenwich have had a tumultuous history - they are where King Henry VIII was born and Anne Boleyn was arrested before being taken by barge to the Tower of London," says FROG leader Helen Johnston. "Their remains still lie along the foreshore, and are just one part of the archaeology there that spans from prehistoric flints to Greenwich's industrial heritage."

Although no digging is involved, the foreshore can be uneven and muddy so the walk is aimed at adults willing to get their feet a bit dirty. Boots or wellies are definitely recommended!

The walk will start at 7.30pm from the main river stairs in front of the Old Royal Naval College.

Funds raised from the walk will go to support the work of the Greenwich FROG.

This event is part of the Council for British Archaeology’s annual Festival of Archaeology.

Please be aware that if the weather is inclement, the walk may need to be postponed or cancelled.
