Destination: Andalucia

Like bears, squirrels and three-quarter-length trousers (thank goodness), the Mile High team have been in hibernation over the winter. With memories of Göteborg, Beirut, Sicily and Mozambique fading into one big Negroni-infused blur, the world’s most irreverent airline has rounded up the cabin crew from dimly-lit hotel bars around the globe and rescued the captain from an expensive rehab clinic in Arizona to bring you its most exciting adventure yet - Destination: Andalucia.

With head chef Ollie Templeton returning to the familiar flavours of a childhood spent pouring olive oil on his corn flakes and kicking a tin can around the cobbled streets of a whitewashed pueblo, Destination: Andalucia will fresh-press the brashest, liveliest and most delicious elements of Spain’s most iconic province into a monotony-crushing elixir of sabor, pasión y espíritu.

Diners can look forward to some familiar tropes (the bestubbled, chain-smoking Guardia Civil at passport control, the odd jamón ibérico hanging from the ceiling…) but bullfighting and boleros this ain’t. After all, it wouldn’t be a Mile High pop-up without a few surprises thrown in.

Destination: Andalucia opens its doors between 30th July – 9th August 2014.

Mile High is inspired by the golden age of air travel, when legroom meant doing the twist and turbulence was a by-product of the bar steward’s cocktail shaker. On arrival, air hostesses in gorgeous Pan Am-inspired attire welcome guests to the retro departure lounge, home of Mile High’s Airborne DJ Division. There diners can enjoy ‘check in’ cocktails and gourmet bar snacks served with pencil moustaches and a smile before embarking on Mile High’s chosen foodie destination. Access to the departure lounge bar will be available from 6.30pm, with boarding for dinner called at 7.30pm sharp. A touch or two of the unexpected await after dinner.

Mile High is brought to London by Shuttlecock-inc, four cousins from the creative Templeton family: Anna, Ollie, Will and Ed who share a wealth of experience from the event, theatre, culinary, cocktail, music and advertising worlds.

Mile High: Andalucía is sponsored by the Spanish Tourist Office and the region of Andalucía. The birthplace of tapas, Andalucía is at the heart of Spain’s gastronomic culture offering a feast for food lovers. With the sherry bodegas of Jerez, the extensive coastline offering an abundance of fresh fish and seafood, the salty jamón serrano and heart-warming stews from the Sierra Nevada mountain range and the hundreds of tapas bars dotted around the region, the diverse cuisine of Andalucía is a draw for all.
