Exciting young writer Andrew Maddock’s The Me Plays present a semi-autobiographical look at growing up in Wembley, complete with discussions of male body image, internet pornography, Roman Catholic schools, rap music and God. In the first play, Junkie, ‘Me’ confronts how dating has changed in the digital age, while Hi Life, I Win reflects nostalgically on being a teenager.

Andrew Maddock’s training in, and previous work with, the Playing Up programme - which gives young people who are not in education, employment or training a chance to take part in the National Youth Theatre - is part of his commitment to work that encourages young and disadvantaged people to take part in theatre, as well as influencing his performance and writing style.

Oxford Drama said, ‘Andrew Maddock has a very naturalistic pen, all the more impressive for the deep wells of meaning, metaphor, past and future that lay swirling beneath the sentences.’ His work defies easy definition, swimming between monologue, poetry and play to give an unashamedly modern and ‘theatrically daring’ (Everything Theatre) performance.

This production will be directed by Ryan Bradley, who assisted the 2011 JMK Award winning director Cathal Cleary on The Last Yankee at the Print Room, which was nominated for 4 Off West End Awards, including Best Production.

As well as staging The Me Plays, Andrew Maddock will also be presenting a night of response pieces on 15th September, with discounted tickets available for writers who would like to get involved on the first night of the run (2nd September, £6 tickets with the code WRITER).

The entire run of performances will also offer £6 tickets to selected groups in the Brent and Islington area working with young people who are not in education, work or training.
