Ascot’s King George Weekend (Friday 25th to Sunday 27th July) is amongst the UK’s most important Flat meetings and this year’s event will be no exception with an attractive line up both on and off the track.

The highlight of the racing programme is Saturday’s feature race, the Group One King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes (sponsored by QIPCO) commemorating Her Majesty The Queen’s late parents. It is Britain’s most prestigious all-aged mile-and-a-half race and the European mid-season middle distance championship, boasting prize money of £1,000,000.

Nick Smith, Head of Communications and International Racing at Ascot Racecourse said:

“A fascinating clash between Royal Ascot winners Eagle Top and Telescope could be on the cards for the King George this year.

“To many observers, Telescope’s seven length win in the Hardwicke Stakes was the most impressive performance by an older horse of the week. However, the three-year-old, Eagle Top, had announced himself a major King George candidate in no uncertain terms in the course and distance King Edward VII Stakes 24 hours earlier.

“As ever, King George Weekend, with competitive racing over three days, looks set to complement the spectacular five days we’ve just enjoyed during at Royal Ascot perfectly.”

Away from the track, two Michelin-starred chef, Phil Howard, whose fish course won a place at the final banquet on Great British Menu in 2012 will be recreating his winning dish as part of a special menu in the outstanding Parade Ring restaurant on Friday (25th July) and Saturday (26th July).

Crowds will enjoy an English Garden Party atmosphere with entertainment including acrobats, harpists, a swing band, champagne cocktails and afternoon teas throughout the racecourse.

Rounding off the King George Weekend, Sunday (27th July) is a family fun day with plenty on offer for racegoers of all ages. A star studded line up of Children’s TV favourites will be attending including Peppa Pig, Postman Pat and Ben and Holly direct from their Magic Kingdom. Patrons of the Colts and Fillies Club, Ant and Dec, will pay a special visit to the racecourse to answer questions from 20 young racegoers in the Parade Ring before racing.
