Do your children know how to make a bug hotel? Or how to track animals? Have they ever seen the insect that can fly better than a helicopter? Exploring the natural world is one of the most fascinating gifts you can give your children.

This summer bring your youngsters to WWT London Wetland Centre to pick up their passport to a summer of exploration. Children can collect a passport with eight wildlife themed activities on it and for every challenge they complete they’ll get a sticker, making them an official Nature Explorer!

Join our daily Wetland Warden sessions to help you complete some of the Nature Explorer challenges such creating habitats for insects to live in and building bird houses out of recycled materials. The homes you create will then be placed around the Centre to give wildlife a place to live. Our wetland warden challenges take place every day from 26 July to 31 August.

Some of the activities you can complete by yourself, such as growing your own edible water plant or making a rain gauge.

Not only will the activities keep kids amused for hours, they’ll also open up a world of exploration and excitement that will keep them enthralled throughout their lives. Most of today’s most famous naturalists such as Sir David Attenborough and Chris Packham spent their childhoods rummaging around in hedges, forests and rivers, learning about the environment and the wonderful creatures that depend on it. So why not give your children the same chance to discover the fun and passion that an outdoor lifestyle brings?

The Nature Explorer passport activities include:
Identify and draw an animal track you have found
Learn to use binoculars properly. We have binoculars you can use and handy tips in our Headley Discovery Hide
Time how long a diving duck can stay under water

You can also pick up a copy of our self-guided Water Trail to discover more about the wonders of water. £1.00 per trail, including a small prize when you hand in your completed copy.
