In their brand new show The Phantom Ride, CRANK Theatre uses the fictional story of an early, experimental genius of British cinema, all of whose work is now lost, to introduce audiences to the history of film-making and cinema-going in London.
It will reflect the remarkable rise of cinema as an art form, the social change that it reflected — and wrought — and the fascinating connections and conflicts between cinema and music hall.
By using a biographical structure they will integrate real cinema pioneers and music hall stars into their story, and illuminate the hidden history of Filmland, as the area around Soho was known.
Written by CRANK Theatre and Jonathan Wakeham.
Co-produced by LOCO Film Festival
