City of London Sinfonia return to Village Underground for one of their ground-breaking bitesized, informal concert experiences CLoSer, designed to appeal to those who like their live music to be intimate and relaxed (and who enjoy a glass of wine while listening!). Shostakovich's outrageous re-working of Shakespeare's Hamlet was first performed against the backdrop of Stalin's cultural pogroms of the early 1930s, turning the play into a visceral and biting political satire. Korngold's music for Much Ado About Nothing reveals why he later became one of the pioneers of the Hollywood film industry.
