Stars twinkle because their light has to pass through Earth's turbulent atmosphere. Scientists get a much clearer view by launching telescopes past our atmosphere and into space. Traditionally, this is done with a satellite, but new experimental techniques might allow us to transport telescopes using giant balloons, at a fraction of the cost. What have we already learnt from these space-based telescopes and what will future telescopes tell us about the best kept secrets in the Universe?

Join Royal Society University Research Fellow Dr Richard Massey to explore the world of space-based observation and find out how scientists are planning to probe enigmatic substances like dark matter and dark energy. Chaired by fellow space scientist and Royal Society University Research Fellow Dr Lucie Green.
