The Greasy Slicks formed in 2012 through a mutual appreciation of traditional and contemporary blues rock and strive to create the songs that don’t sound like anyone else.
Evidence of this can be heard on the track ‘Street Queen’ – all seven minutes of it received radio airplay on Tom Robinson’s 6Music Introducing Mix-tape.
The Slicks take influence from bands such as The Temperance Movement, Led Zeppelin, The Hoax and many others while clearly absorbing elements of rock and roll and blues as a means to establish their own style; which they have with some aplomb.
Their passionate live shows have been described as the soundtrack for “a bourbon-soaked bar brawl” and are where they strive to ensure audiences are captivated by the Slicks energy, commitment and musicianship. Having already played venues that are akin to their authentic roots, the Slicks revel on taking the listener through a narrative and appreciate the symbiotic relationship between quietude and the vociferous parts of their songs – ‘Wild Ones’ being a consummate example.
The Greasy Slicks have youth on their side, and in the age of the throwaway band they truly bring something different to the table.
The first thing you should know about this band is that they are self-identified garage rockers – they have no qualms about turning up the gain and breaking a few drum sticks. The second thing you should know about this band is that less than a year after forming, they won the Seattle Hard Rock Café battle of the bands, topping some other acts that had been playing together for much longer. They managed this feat with songs that show off the blues-inspired talents of their two guitarists, Guy Fox and Ryan Granger, while maintaining a high level of energy throughout.
