Tonight we welcome crossover jazz singer/songwriter Nazneen for her debut gig, in what promises to be a riveting night’s entertainment. However, for those who know her as a highly rated vocalist it may come as a surprise to learn that during the day she is also a Professor in cancer genetics at the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust as well as the Institute of Cancer Research, being internationally recognised for her groundbreaking scientific research in that area. She was recently named Number Three ‘Game Changer’ in the BBC Woman’s Hour Power List 2014 demonstrating her international stature as a scientist. Not content to be an award-winning scientist, though, Nazneen is also an accomplished musician and since starting to write original music three years ago she has had an impressive rise within the UK music scene, having two songs reach the finals of the UK Songwriting Contest and gaining over 50,000 plays of her material on Soundcloud. This evening she is launching her debut CD "Can't Clip My Wings" which has received national airplay on BBC radio and had features in Stylist and Elle magazines. Tonight's performance will draw heavily from the album, showcasing original material as well as covers from an eclectic mixture of artists including Sade, Kaiser Chiefs and Kate Bush. Joining Nazneen to help her launch the album will be the impressive West End singer/actor Will Barratt, who includes work on Jersey Boys, Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables and Sweeney Todd on an impressive cv. As you would expect for such a special event there will be a fantastic band in support with Joe Davison (MD/piano), Dave Holden (bass), Stuart Mann (drums) and Nazneen’s son Haroon Taylor, who will be joining her on sax for a number or two. This is a gig from one of the most interesting talents of 2014, well worth catching. Booking advised.
