Equator's Women of the World series presents music from around the world with a mix of Brazilian, Jewish, Indian, Cape Verdean, Bulgarian, African, jazz, French and Czech classical composers and musicians.
The London Klezmer Quartet takes you on a musical odyssey from the Baltic to the Black Sea and beyond. Moving audiences from toe-tapping to tears – and back again! – in moments, the band plays old and new traditional tunes that evoke the eastern European shtetls (towns) where Jewish musicians were an essential part of every celebration.
'The most dexterous and interesting of contemporary klezmer ensembles.' fROOTS
'The tradition is safe in their hands' Sunday Times
The London Klezmer Quartet plays celebratory and spiritual music originating in Jewish eastern Europe. The group’s traditional approach to the genre lends an authenticity to their sound and their 'virtuosity, exciting original tunes and soulful playing' (Songlines) are building their reputation globally, including in Australia where they have just completed a third tour. Prepare for a musical journey from the Baltic to the Black Sea, and from Kiev to Karrada with Susi Evans (clarinet), Ilana Cravitz (violin), Carol Isaacs (accordion) and Rupert Gillett (double bass).
