Women of the World Series 2014: The London Klezmer Quartet

Equator's Women of the World series presents music from around the world with a mix of Brazilian, Jewish, Indian, Cape Verdean, Bulgarian, African, jazz, French and Czech classical composers and musicians.

The London Klezmer Quartet takes you on a musical odyssey from the Baltic to the Black Sea and beyond. Moving audiences from toe-tapping to tears – and back again! – in moments, the band plays old and new traditional tunes that evoke the eastern European shtetls (towns) where Jewish musicians were an essential part of every celebration.

The London Klezmer Quartet plays celebratory and spiritual music originating in Jewish eastern Europe. The group’s traditional approach to the genre lends an authenticity to their sound and their 'virtuosity, exciting original tunes and soulful playing' (Songlines) are building their reputation globally, including in Australia where they have just completed a third tour.
