The son of veteran bass player Jim Richardson, saxophonist Leo Richardson’s musical talent was recognised in 2009 with a scholarship to Trinity College of Music. Since graduating in 2013, when he received the prestigious Jazz Achievement Award, Leo has rapidly established a reputation as one of London’s most talented young sax players. From venues including The Royal Albert Hall and Glastonbury to performances with Gregory Porter, The BBC Proms, Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Orchestra, The Heliocentrics, Jim Mullen and Theo Jackson, Leo has demonstrated a impressive mastery of his instrument that has created considerable demand, whether in straight ahead modern jazz settings or edgier, crossover contemporary jazz domains. Tonight for his first 606 Club date as leader, Leo has put together a superb array of musicians, including Quentin Collins (trumpet), Rick Simpson (piano), Mark Lewandowski (bass) and Moses Boyd (drums), who will be playing hard bop classics from the likes of Horace Silver, Joe Henderson & Cedar Walton. An exciting new presence and worthy addition to the 606 Club roster.
