Singer-pianist Theo Jackson has gained a reputation on the scene as a composer and performer of strikingly original songs combined with a captivating stage presence. His 2012 album "Jericho" was received with impressive reviews, including All About Jazz who said the album "heads towards a…fascinating musical destination". His signing to publisher Splash Point (who have also promoted the likes of Liane Carroll and Ian Shaw) demonstrates just how talented he is. Recently Theo was recognised for setting lyrics to the late bassist Scott Lafaro’s composition, “Gloria’s Step,” which led to a one-off publishing deal with Concord Jazz, and he has performed at a number of major festivals including Cheltenham, Rye & Love Supreme. Now with approval from Wayne Shorter to set lyrics to one of his tunes, Theo is working on a new record to be released through label Dot Time Records in spring of 2015 and has been balancing his time between London and New York. In addition, his other various projects include an ongoing duo collaboration with award-winning saxophonist Nathaniel Facey (Empirical), and “Gentlemen of Jazz”, a programme of standards paying tribute to the great male jazz vocalists. Tonight Theo will be joined by his quartet featuring the exciting young saxophonist Leo Richardson, bassist Alex Davis and Empirical and Jean Toussaint drummer Shaney Forbes, each of whom are scarily talented first call players in their own right. Theo considers the 606 his “home away from home” and we are delighted to welcome him this evening.

"One of the most interesting vocalists and composers to emerge on the British scene in recent years." Daily Telegraph;
"Vocalist Theo Jackson leads his band from the piano, with a confidence and assurance that comes from being a true musician” LondonJazz;
“One firecracker of a vocalist! Theo has a unique but incredibly engaging vocal style swapping between hard-bop, edgy crooner, heart rending ballard and foot-tapping swing.” The Oxford Jazz Festival Review;
"Soulful, earthy vocal-led jazz from this impressive young singer with a powerful yet subtle voice, Jackson also has a knack of penning Stevie Wonder-esque originals that avoid the usual crooner clichés . . . one to watch out for." Time Out
