Damon Brown & Special Guest Fredrik Carlquist

An international recording artist, Damon is unquestionably one of the most talented of the current crop of British trumpet players. A versatile player he is equally at home with pop or jazz, although jazz is quite definitely his first love. Greatly respected on the scene his fluent and highly melodic playing has been heard with the likes of Benny Golson, Steve Grossman and Dave Liebman. The quintet’s set is a mix of standards and original material played in a seriously impressive way and will be further enhanced tonight by special guest, saxophonist Fredrik Carlquist. Originally from Sweden but now based in Barcelona, he is now one of the Catalan city's most respected players. With a style that is reminiscent of the gentler, melodic, “cool” school of jazz, Fredrik’s playing has been compared to sax greats such as Stan Getz and Paul Desmond (Take 5). The Guardian described Damon’s recent outfit as “a coolly authoritative…band…” and you can expect more of the same this evening.
