There is a last-minute opportunity to see all of the stunning BookBenches that have been dotted about London this summer - in one place! The public have one final chance to view the 51 benches which will all be gathered together in the University of London’s Gordon Square Garden WC1 for one weekend only – 4 and 5 October from 10am to 6pm.
This will be the last chance to see the iconic benches that took London by storm this summer and to preview them ahead of auction at the Southbank Centre on 7 October. The auction will raise vital funds to support the work of the National Literacy Trust to raise literacy levels of disadvantaged children.
Popular auction lots include Ralph Steadman’s beautiful Through the Looking Glass design, Paul Kidby’s Discworld bench, Axel Scheffler’s amalgamation of characters from the Gruffalo to Stickman, Cressida Cowell’s How to Train Your Dragon and Lauren Child’s Clarice Bean bench. Conan Doyle fans can see the Sherlock Holmes bench, sitting alongside beautiful War Horse, James Bond, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and Paddington Bear benches.
Author Joanna Trollope fronts a new video, celebrating Books about Town here: youtu.be/Bh4nSFH2TP4.
Tickets to the auction on 7 October can be bought now at southbankcentre.co.uk/whatson/books-about-town-auction-of-un-86727 or you can register to bid online.
