Jazz singer / pianist Robin Phillips, is touring his new ‘Sing. Play.. for Pleasure’ album project in the South East of England this Autumn, with performances in Cambridge, Oxford, Bury St Edmunds, and across London.

The ‘Sing. Play.’ album is a vocalese pilgrimage, inspired by one of the genre’s often-forgotten originators, King Pleasure. Vocalese is a style of jazz where a vocalist sings a solo that was once improvised, but with lyrics to create a new song. To add a new element to this genre, Robin uniquely combines voice and piano as he plays, as well as sings, the vocalese lines in unison. He has also added his own original lyrics to other solos, creating new vocalese tunes.

Performances will feature the Robin Phillips Trio with Jay Darwish on bass and Alex Best on drums. In Cambridge the trio is joined by leading UK jazz saxophonist Sam Mayne and in North Finchley, Robin will be accompanied by the Safari Music house trio: Rick Finlay on drums, Jeremy Shoham on sax, and Phil Scragg on bass. The tour performances will also include music from Robin’s other album projects and offer a glimpse of his next album project, scheduled for 2015.
