PHOTOBLOCK is the new visual initiative from The Old Truman Brewery. Boasting a collection of photographic events set to create a wider experience and engagement for all things photographic here in the East End.

October welcomes a new season and is busy time for creatives in the capital with the annual Frieze Art Fair and the return of East London’s Photography Festival, Photomonth. If that’s not enough to bring you to the East End this fall – we’ve made sure that PHOTOBLOCK, in its first year, provides an eclectic mix of Photographic events reflecting both contemporary and traditional forms of practice.

Photography Unplugged

Leica’s pop up ‘Photography Unplugged’, is the perfect destination for those wishing to expose the real photographer in them. As part of The Old Truman Brewery’s Event PHOTOBLOCK, Leica will host a range of talks, workshops and exhibitions in October, aimed at discovering the essence of photography without the superfluous complexity that can stifle individual creativity.
Alongside the schedule of talks, exhibitions and events, visitors are also encouraged just to stop by and see the latest Leica products on display. Expert Leica staff will be on hand to answer any questions, and inspire the photographer in you.

Originally established by Hasselblad USA in New York five years ago, the ‘Shoot’ event concept is an exciting, informative and inspiring event based on the premise of building a photographic community. Aimed at top end professional photographers, whilst still being suitable and interesting for all levels of image makers, shootLDN is a hive of interactive and hands-on activity. You won’t see table top after table top of boring sales stands, but instead a venue full of live shoots demonstrations, tutorials and seminars, each designed to inspire, inform and educate, and hosted by some of the industry’s top photographers and leading brands.

PHOTOMASTERS - MA Photography showcase

As part of this year’s PHOTOBLOCK, The Old Truman Brewery will be bringing you PHOTOMASTERS.
Coordinated and produced in house we aim to bring you an inspiring showcase of recent MA Photography Graduates work from across the UK.
As a new initiative from the creators of the Free Range Graduate Shows, we hope to create great exposure and professional opportunities for Graduates.
With the aim of these events running annually these photographic festivals will create critical mass, footfall and an exciting time for emerging photographers and budding enthusiasts.

Fotonow’s Southwest Photography Graduate Prize

FOTONOW is an independent photographic arts organisation based in the South West. The aim in developing a South West Graduate Photography Prize is to create opportunities for emerging artists while enhancing the visibility of photographic practice across the region. South West Graduate Photography Prize is a group show supported by Fotonow CIC. In its fifth year now the prize showcases contemporary photography made on degree level educational programmes in the South West region and offers audiences a unique insight into new work while supporting emerging artists. Patrick Campbell, Olivia Bohac, Julia Nottingham, Shelly Belboda, Mary Pearson, Tommy Sussex and Jessica Summers will be exhibiting as part of this show at The Old Truman Brewery.

Fotonow’s Camper Obsucra

Camper Obscura is a mobile camera obscura sat inside a 1986 VW camper van managed by Fotonow CIC. Offering free visual experiences the vehicle is a photographic festival favourite and a must see during PHOTOBLOCK just off Brick Lane outside Dray Walk Gallery.

Shutter Hub Professional Development talk.

The talk will be about Professional Development and how Shutter Hub can help emerging and established photographers to take their work further, with the support of others, and through online and real-world networking, opportunities, events and exhibitions. Photographers will be able join Shutter Hub for just £30 on the day (25% off membership) if they wish to.
