Alborada and Movimientos present a day of documentary and discussion about Latin America centred around the themes of Exile, Solidarity and Culture. Films screened to include the new acclaimed documentary on the late, legendary Argentinian singer Mercedes Sosa. The day will close with a special evening musical performance from Lokandes Quartet and special guests.

The event will begin with a session on Exile with Displaced A screening of a work-in-progress short film about members of a displaced community in the Colombian region of Chocó and a rare chance to see Hora Chilena which tells the story of Chileans who fled Pinochet's Chile and sought refuge in Cambridge.

Then continuing a Chilean theme in the second session on Solidarity with Nae Pasaran which shows how in 1974 Scottish factory workers refused to carry out repairs on warplane engines in an act of solidarity against the violent military coup in Chile. Whilst two films from Roberto Chile Let There Be Light and On The Slopes of The Himalayas explore how the Cuban doctors work throughout the Americas and in Pakistan respectively. And there will be a chance to catch short talk by Dr Victor Figueroa-Clark, London School of Economics on Chilean internationalism and the victory of the Sandinista revolution in Nicaragua.

And the third session on Culture see our headline film from director Rodrigo H. Vila - Mercedes Sosa, the Voice of Latin America. This intimate documentary reveals Sosa's early life and her rise to worldwide stardom, and explores the impact she had on the musical -- and political -- heritage of Latin America... and the world. Preceded Goppi the Cuban Indian - A fun culinary journey with Goppi, one of the very few Indians living in Havana, Cuba.

And to finish the day live music from Lokandes one of the truly exceptional live acts emerging from the Latin community in London. Taking the melodies and energy of Andean music and mixing it with Rumba, Reggae and Afro-Latin rhythms.
