Celebrated British wildlife artist Rose Corcoran and Asprey’s London are pleased to announce a major solo exhibition of the artist’s beautiful large scale drawings at their flagship store on New Bond Street. The exhibition is the first time that a contemporary artist has been invited to exhibit their drawings at this historic venue.

Two years in development, these meticulous works in charcoal and pastel incorporate many of Rosie’s favourite subjects, most particularly the tigers for which she is best known. Rosie has devoted many years to studying and observing the creatures in their natural habitat and the resulting images convey both the rare beauty of the animals and the artist’s deep connection to them.

Rosie’s fascination with tigers began whilst travelling to India, where she lived in Dharamsala for a year. Inspired by villagers making occasional sightings of the elusive creatures, she decided to go in search of them herself and was able to journey to Ranthambore National Park to observe them in the wild with leading tiger conservationist, Valmik Thapar.

In the subsequent 15 years Rosie has returned many times to Ranthambore in the company of Thapar, becoming involved in his important conservation work as well as contributing a chapter to his authoritative title 'Tiger: The Ultimate Guide’. Valmik Thapar recently commented: 'Rosie Corcoran’s work is breath taking...it captures the very essence of wild animals from their immense strength and power to their elegance and fluidity'.

In addition to her more familiar depictions of tigers Rosie has also studied a new subject for this exhibition for the first time with African wild dogs in powerful charcoal drawings. The new works render a masterful study which call to mind a present day Stubbs but with the added urgency that her subjects are chosen to highlight the severity of threat to these endangered animals.

Her passionate belief in the preservation of animal life and habitat is the motivation behind Corcoran’s artistic output and through the exhibition the artist will raise money in support of conservation, specifically, for the charity the Wildlife Protection Society of India. Founded by the award-winning photographer and documentary-maker Belinda Wright, the charity specialises in tiger conservation and works to resolve human-animal conflict.
