The Bus Driver’s Prayer – East London’s only BYOB evening of music, comedy and spoken word – presents a special event celebrating the romantics, rebels and wrong ‘uns of this world.

On the journey is your bus conductor, Richard Purnell, with Andrew “the Les Dawson of spoken word” Brown, and Anthony “the rhyming Tony Hancock” Fairweather.

Featuring…!

Nijinsky’s Asylum!
Bizarre and brilliant songwriting from the lowlands of East Anglia, to the heart of the East End. Tom Hollingworth produces music psychedlic, surreal and, to be quite frank, sick.

He’s a weirdo, baby, so why don’t you kill him?

Tahila Coombs!
Hackney’s chief archivist, Tahlia Coombs is the queen of local history who will tell tales explaining why the East End has always been the home of radicals, reformists and gin-soaked drunks.

Rik Livermore!
Rik has been roaming around the poetry circuit for some time, delivering intricate rhyme schemes which explore life’s big themes. So it was no surprise when he was commissioned to write two war poems for the centenary of the beginning of World War One. You could call him Sassoon on speed. You could also call him Rik.

The Danny Sherwood Triage!
This piano and strings ensemble play lyric-led blues reminiscent of Billy Joel and early Tom Waits. Danny is the lovelorn storyteller on piano singing in his soulful bass baritone. Joining him are Brendan Rowley on double bass and Jo Cullum on cello. These boys are Bus Driver’s favourites and we’re delighted to have them back.
