Undoubtedly, Billecart-Salmon is a small Champagne house with an enormous reputation - counting award winning wine writer Robert Parker among its many fans. It was founded in 1818 when Nicolas François Billecart married Elisabeth Salmon, and has remained family owned over almost two centuries. They espouse three principal aims: “finesse, balance and elegance” which we will examine as we sample our way through their entire range:
Collection: Brut Rosé, Brut Resérve, Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru, Extra Brut, Brut Sous Bois and Demi-Sec
Millésime: ’04 Extra Brut, ’04 Blanc De Blancs, ’99 Cuvée Nicholas Francois and ’02 Cuvée Elisabeth Salmon Rosé
Clos St Hilaire: We finish with the extraordinary 1998 Clos St Hilaire which comes from a single hectare block situated next to the house in Mareuil-sur-Ay, planted back in 1964. This is oak-aged 100% Pinot Noir. Production is remarkably small with a mere 300 to 600 cases being made- 'cult' status looms on the horizon.
You will also get a FREE Riedel Veritas Gift Set of 4 glasses (RRP £110) at the tasting so hurry as places are strictly limited.
