Looking for something strange? Spooky? Unusual?

At the Society of Strange we improvise tales…. Weird Tales.

'Weird Tales Magazine' reached the peak of its notoriety in the Edwardian age as writers reinvented the horror story, taking it into the world of the strange, the unusual, the unexplainable.

The Society will enact three short stories inspired by these great eccentric writers – all drawn from audience suggestions and improvised live on the spot.

The Society of Strange is inspired by writers such as HP Lovecraft, Clark Ashton Smith, August Derleth, CM Eddy Jr, Brian Lumley, Seabury Quinn, Ambrose Bierce, MR James, Algernon Blackwood, WH Hodgson, Lord Dunsany, Arthur Machen, J Sheridan LeFanu, Bram Stoker, Edgar Allan Poe, Jorge Luis Borges, HG Wells, Jules Verne, Charles Dickens, Rudyard Kipling, Robert Frost, Stephen King, Thomas Ligotti, Laird Barron and many others.

Created by multi-award-winnning Extempore Theatre (www.extemporetheatre.com), creators of Showstopper! The Improvised Musical, the annual London 50 Hour Improvathon and The School Of Night.

Extempore Theatre is leading a revival in improvised theatre having performed at The RNT (Olivier); Shakespeare's Globe Theatre; The Royal Court Theatre; West Yorkshire Playhouse; Sheffield Crucible; Bristol Old Vic; Edinburgh Playhouse; Criterion Theatre; Ambassadors Theatre; Udderbelly South Bank Festival, Latitude Festival, BBC Radio 4, BBC Radio 3, as well as performances in Ireland, Belgium, Norway, Italy, Canada, Denmark and China.

'They truly are the masters of longform improvisation.' (Time Out ★★★★★)

'The hothouse for longform improvisation in the UK' (The Financial Times ★★★★)
