Award-winning pianist Kate Williams is a fine musician who has made a name for herself as both a performer, composer/arranger and music educator (teaching at both the Guildhall School of Music and Middlesex University). A previous winner of the John Dankworth Award she has released four CDs, each one to critical acclaim. Her trio CD “Scenes And Dreams” (2005) was rated in the top ten jazz albums that year by Mojo magazine and her CD, “The Embrace” (2008), was praised for her rich and sonorous quintet writing. She was also featured in the Steinway 2-Piano Festival at Pizza Express in 2010, 2011 and 2013, with two of the concerts broadcast on BBC Radio 3’s Jazz Lineup. Earlier this year, she co-founded “Interplay Series: Bill Evans and the Impressionists” with conductor William Goodchild, featuring new arrangements of Bill Evans tunes alongside works by Ravel & Debussy. Tonight Kate will be launching her highly anticipated new album “Atlas and Vulcana” backed by her exciting and innovative 7-piece band, so you can expect superb originals, beautifully arranged and performed by some of the finest players in the UK, including Gareth Lockrane-flutes, Steve Fishwick-trumpet, Alex Garnett-sax, Tom White-trombone, Oli Hayhurst-bass and Tristan Maillot-drums. Promises to be a wonderfully inventive and satisfying evening.

“A worthy addition to the ranks of British Jazz composer pianists…” The Observer;
“Pianist Kate Williams writes robustly and fashions clean, cool improvised lines…evoking Tristano and Jarrett… a cerebral and quirky imagination in both composition and improvisation…a genuine talent to watch.” Mojo
