Big Music London presents four great large ensembles for the price of one. This will be a night packed with immaculately crafted music from some of Britain's best young composers and bandleaders. Expect to be taken on an emotional journey and end the night dancing to the sounds of Exploding Hug Machine.
Jack Davies Big Band:
Influenced by the tradition of great innovative British big bands, The Jack Davies Big Band draws on the raucous power of Colin Towns' Mask Orchestra, the lyrical melancholy of Kenny Wheeler and the boundary-pushing work of Loose Tubes. This is big band music that retains the energy and individualism of Duke Ellington, but is infused with the powerful and uncompromising aesthetic of contemporary jazz.
The Matt Roberts Big Band:
Lead by composer/trumpeter Matt Roberts, the band will present a set of engaging original composition inspired by the world of science and free inquiry.
Jeff Spencer's Crocodile explores the edges of the jazz planet. Expect a tapestry of sounds, with influences as diverse as Krzysztof Pendercki, Jerry Goldsmith and grooves from around the globe. Jeff describes the lineup of his band as being akin to 'a garage full of Ferraris'.
Exploding Hug Machine is a journey through experimental sounds and gnarly beats to party the night away to.
