London based Swedish concert pianist and composer Johan Hugosson performs his new concert, ‘Nordic Romance’ for the first time and he also premieres his new works ‘Fate’ and ‘Northern Lights’ on Friday 28th November 2014 at the St James’s Church venue in Piccadilly, London, commencing at 7.30pm.

Johan will also include his earlier works ‘Dusk to Dawn’ released in 2012 and ‘Literas Loquendi’ launched in March this year. The concert will be an evening of cinematic and melodic music, which will take the audience on a Scandinavian inspired musical journey and will be performed in candlelight.

Johan created Nordic Romance from his keen love of both the beauty and roughness of Scandinavian nature. He has also taken inspiration from the Viking journeys described by Frans G. Bengtsson in “The Long Ships” and by the noir Wallander thriller mystery style. You can hear this inspiration in his pieces ‘Red Snake’ and ‘The Mystery’ together with ‘Fate’ and ‘Northern Lights’. Johan said of this: “While composing new music for this occasion I drew on my Scandinavian origins and I am excited to present new works with a Nordic feel”.

Commenting on the ‘Dusk to Dawn’ composition, Jazz vocalist Joan Minor said: “I have never heard anything more beautiful and breath taking. I don’t have words to describe. Absolutely awesome!”

Johan will be accompanied by the outstanding Belsize String Quartet of whom members recently returned from touring with Gidon Kremer and Martha Argerich in Argentina.

As a concert pianist Johan has a great appreciation for Chopin's writing and has paired his own works with the beautiful second movement from Chopin's first piano concerto in e-minor: ‘Romance’ which he will also perform during the evening.

The Nordic Romance concert event is being sponsored by the Anglo-Swedish Society.
