Christmas has inspired composers for more than five hundred years and the legacy of Renaissance music is rich and varied. In recent years a 'Second English Renaissance' has seen contemporary composers taking inspiration from plainchant and polyphonic masterworks. A new tradition of Renaissance-inspired music flourishes in the hands of English composers.
Join Chapelle du Roi to explore the links between works by Thomas Tallis, John Sheppard & Tomás Luis de Victoria
and six contemporary English composers.
Four of the works were commissioned by Chapelle du Roi for this programme and are World Premieres.
Programme includes:
- O Sapientia - David Braid & Sarum Chant
- Nunc Dimittis - Samuel Bordoli & Thomas Tallis
- Advent Prose - Robert Hugill & Gregorian Chant
- Verbum Caro - Norman Harper & John Sheppard
- No Man’s Land 1914 - Jonathan Darbourne
- Alma Redemptoris - Cecilia McDowall & Victoria
