GARDEL is a series of photographs illustrating the influence that legendary Argentine actor and tango singer Carlos Gardel has had and continues to have over the culture, architecture and music in Buenos Aires. Carlos Gardel was a singer, songwriter and actor, and is perhaps the most prominent figure in the history of Tango. Gardel died in an airplane crash at the height of his career. Despite this, he has been immortalised throughout Buenos Aires. From the Gardel murals amongst the floral "fileteado" paintings on the walls of Abasto (the district in which Gardel grew up) to the soulful and melancholic tones drifting out of the bars of San Telmo, Gardel's popularity and legendary status has long outlived the man himself. This is exemplified by the popular Latin America phrase claiming that, even now "[Gardel] sings better every day."

Craig grew up in Glasgow. Since qualifying as a lawyer and moving to London in 2007, he has developed his photography portfolio; focussing on social and documentary work. As a active member of the Shoreditch group of London independent Photography, he has curated exhibitions and showcased his work in both Glasgow and London. It was during his travels in South America that he captured this series of work which was first exhibited in 2012 as part of Photomonth, the East London International Photography Festival.
