Love is in the Air at London’s

Most Romantic Hotspot

On Wednesday 10th December at 8pm, London’s most romantic hotspot will be created when a magnificent, cascading five-metre mistletoe chandelier is unveiled at the entrance of The Old Post Office at 116 Upper Street, Islington, London N1.

For many centuries, mistletoe has symbolised love and friendship, peace and harmony. The first couple to kiss under Islington’s mistletoe chandelier will be Dorothy and Eric Riley - a tradition the couple have embraced for the 70 years of their marriage.

To enhance the atmosphere, the Reverend Simon Harvey of St Mary’s Church, which is situated directly opposite the site of the chandelier, will turn on the lights that will adorn the scene accompanied by a sprinkling of magical snowflakes.

Members of the public are also invited to kiss under Islington’s mistletoe chandelier from Wednesday and throughout the festive period, and share their love stories via Twitter using the hashtag #LoveIslington; tweets will be entered into a draw to win pairs of tickets for performances at The Almeida Theatre, Sadler’s Wells or a screening at the Everyman Screen on the Green in Islington; the draw will be made on Friday 9 January 2015.

The mistletoe chandelier is located at the gateway to Islington Square, the iconic 4.5 acre mixed-use regeneration and development scheme on the site of the former North London Mail Centre.
