Kristine Landon-Smith, Tamasha's co-founder and our current International Associate is returning to the UK in January 2015, when she will present a special one-off public masterclass.
Kristine pioneered Intracultural theatre in the UK and beyond through her own practice. This kind of approach is gaining credence as a tried and tested method which embraces the increasing cultural diversity of theatre in the UK. Intraculturalism is founded on the principle that each actor, performer and theatremaker brings with them their own unique cultural context, and that those involved in theatre making and training should work with cultural difference and diversity rather than ignoring it.
This masterclass is open to anyone interested in gaining a more in-depth understanding of intracultural theatre, and how it is applied in practice in a range of contexts – i.e. in the training of actors and performers, in the rehearsal room, and also in non-theatre settings such as classrooms or community centres. The masterclass will include:
A detailed overview on what Intracultural practice is, Kristine’s interpretation of this and the benefits of this approach in the rehearsal room or creative space.
A practical demonstration of the Intracultural approach – working with a group of actors in series of scenarios that demonstrate the theory of Intraculturalism in practice.
The opportunity to explore and interrogate an Intracultural approach through a facilitated Q&A session, examining how it might be applicable within a range of contexts – for example in schools or other participatory settings as well as in theatre spaces.
Tickets are £10 each, and strictly limited and offered on a first come first served basis. To book, email [email protected]. Tickets must be paid for on confirmation of booking.
