The forthcoming London premiere of If Only... by luminary Canadian playwright Michel Tremblay will be presented by Rare Moustache and First Light Theatre at the brand new Bread & Roses Theatre in Clapham where it will run for 7 performances from 6th-11th January 2015. It will star Marianne Adams (National Theatre, Menier Chocolate Factory) and Monty d'Inverno (winner of the 2014 Carleton Hobbs Award and member of the BBC Radio Drama Company). Stephen Whitson (Associate Director of ‘Barnum’ and ‘From Here to Eternity’) directs.

In a compelling balance of humour and poignancy, luminary Canadian playwright Michel Tremblay pays homage to his mother who nurtured his imagination and love for theatre and the arts, yet who did not live to witness the world-wide acclaim for her son's artistic genius.

‘If Only…’ offers glimpses of the pair at five different stages of their lives together, culminating in his reassurance of his dying mother's concern for him immediately prior to his spectacular success.

Originally written in French, ‘If Only…’ won a Chalmers Award and a Dora Mavor Moore Award in 2000. This translation premiered at the Royal Lyceum Theatre in 2003 with The Guardian calling it “funny, affectionate and very true.” and a “mark of [Tremblay’s] genius”.

Marianne Adams' credits include 'Abigail's Party' (Menier Chocolate Factory/Bath Theatre Royal), 'Damned by Despair' (National Theatre) and 'Man & Boy' (West End). She was the recipient of the Craig Dodd Prize for her role as Phyliss in Season's Greetings at the Union Theatre in 2013.

Monty d’Inverno was the winner of the BBC Carleton Hobbs Award 2014 and is a member of the BBC Radio Drama Company. He trained at Drama Studio London and gained a First Class BA Degree in Classics at Cambridge University. He also trained at The Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst and served with the British Army in Germany, Canada and Afghanistan.

Stephen Whitson is currently the Associate Director of Cameron Mackintosh's production of 'Barnum' He has worked on the West End musical 'From Here To Eternity', 'Private Lives' at the Royal Lyceum Theatre, Edinburgh and 'What You Will' at The Globe. His production of 'Cross Purpose' by Albert Camus played two critically successful runs at the Kings Head Theatre, London.
