FRINGE FIRST WINNER 2012
'Visceral, theatrical and astonishing'
★★★★★ The Scotsman
'Tragic theatre of the most powerful kind'
★★★★★ The Herald

Internationally acclaimed award- winning Polish Company Song of the Goat Theatre return to Battersea Arts Centre following their sell out performances of Return to the Voice in 2014.

Songs of Lear is a non-linear dramatic event that shows the world of subtle energies and rhythms that govern Shakespeare’s tragedy. The ensemble members have chosen crucial scenes from King Lear to weave a story out of gestures, words and music. Each song is a starting point for another ‘dramatic poem’ and the music becomes characters, relationships and events.

Songs of Lear had its international premiere during Fringe Festival in Edinburgh in August 2012, where it received three prestigious awards: Scotsman Fringe First, Herald Archangel and Musical Theatre Matters Special Award. Songs of Lear was top of The List as the highest ranked performance of the 2012 festival.

'A sublime version of the Bard’s tragedy'
★★★★★ The List
'Seems to have already passed into legend'
The Guardian

Presented in partnership with the Polish Cultural Institute in London.
