Between 25th March and 1st May 2015 Pangolin London will present Bryan Kneale R.A: Five Decades.
Bryan Kneale is one of the great ‘elder statesmen’ of British sculpture and the first sculptor working with abstractionism to be elected an R.A in 1966.
This mini retrospective shows work from the 60’s through to the present day and offers the opportunity re-discover the work of a remarkable artist through works ranging from early wooden sculptures, through to recent works on paper and sculptures in bronze and aluminium.
Born in Douglas, Isle of Man in 1930, Bryan’s work was greatly influenced by the Italian Futurists – a style and approach which can clearly be seen in his early ‘folded’ and welded sculptures. His work as a draughtsman spans both meticulous drawings from nature and illustrations for his brother’s (Nigel Kneale) famous Quatermass series for Penguin books.
Bryan has exhibited widely and his work can be found in many prestigious collections around the world including the Tate Collection, The Museum of Modern Art, New York and the National Gallery of New Zealand.
The exhibition will be accompanied with a book with forward by British sculptor, poet and novelist, Brian Catling.
