Mozart’s Requiem Mass in D minor is without doubt the most famous of all unfinished musical works.

Little did Mozart know when he accepted this commission from an anonymous patron in Vienna in July 1791 that he would pen the Requiem on his own death-bed. With the work only partially complete Mozart died of a fever on 5 December, aged just 35. At the request of Mozart’s widow Constanze, it was completed by Franz Xaver Süssmayr, to fulfil the original commission by Count Franz von Walsegg, who routinely commissioned works by composers and passed them off as his own!

Whatever the mystery and intrigue surrounding its composition, it remains Mozart’s immortal legacy – a work of profound drama, intensity and depth.

Ealing Choral Society and the Van Swieten Band return to Cadogan Hall to present the Requiem (using Richard Maunder’s completion of the work), alongside Bach’s Cantata Du sollt Gott, deinen Herren, lieben and a selection of Bruckner’s motets.
